A++++ Love it!

This is the best portable DVD player.
I tried the Panasonic first but the cover lid was defective.
This one I haven’t had any issues with.
The sound can go very high so no need for a head set unless the son wants to listen to Kids Bop. LOL
The picture is great and when you stop and turn it off in the middle of a DVD it will start right off from where you left it.
It will even show full screen so no wasting of the screen.
This is going to be great on our first real vacation ever.
Great Dvd player at a great price

The only thing you have to be aware of is that every movie opens up in widescreen mode. You have to change the mode back to full screen everytime. Otherwise, great picture and Sony quality

Awesome buy

I bought this for my 20 month old daughter on our long flight from Maine to Texas. It worked great. I like the hold button feature on the side so when she pushes the buttons on the top, nothing happens. The only button it doesn’t hold is the open button and she found that out. So I’d suggest a locking mechanism on that as well. The picture is great and the sound quality was great and could handle the loud noise of the plane. We’ve been using it on long car rides to make it more sain for mom and dad since my daughter doesn’t like to ride and pitches quite a fit. Our home entertainment dvd/receiver/vhs player has been having difficulties, so we’ve hooked up the cables to the portable dvd player and all has been great until we can fix the “big” one.
A Good Buy

After checking out the on line reviews, we chose this model as our first portable DVD player, which turned out to be a good choice. It is easy to operate and the audio and video out put is good. We were surprised that since it had two ports for earphones, that none were included. We did determine that for plane use, full coverage earphones are best because they block out outside noise. Earbuds tend to not fit well and extraneous noises come through.
All in all a good choice.
Overall, very pleased

Overall, I have been very happy with this DVD player. I bought it for my daughter (turning 2) to bring on trips in the car, airplane, etc. Compared to the Phillips 7″ player, it’s a huge improvement – both in battery life and overall design. For the extra $10 (or so), it’s well worth it. The only complaint would be one other reivewers have voiced – that there is no way to default to full-screen mode, so if you don’t want black bars on some DVDs, you have to go through the options menu. Overall, though, it’s great – having the remote is nice (you can lock down the controls so little hands can’t accidentally create issues and just use the remote), the quality is solid, the battery life is great, it comes with a car power adapter, and although the screen is small – for a kid’s first DVD player, I think it’s a very good choice. If an adult were using this…I think I would spend the extra $$ and go for a larger screen.
Totally satisfied!

I was a bit overwhelmed by such a large selection of portable dvd players out there, but I went with the brand i trusted most (Sony) and I dont regret my decision at all. This product is easy enough for my 4 yr old son to use, it is light weight, sleek and it has a 5 hr battery life! picture is great too. 7″ screen is definitely enough in my opinion. not worth spending extra $50 or even hundreds for an 8″ or a 9″.
Almost prefect

I have had this for 2 months and have no problem except that it seems to play NTSC but not Pal.That is no real problem though. So far so good.
Good player, but screen resolution could be better
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This is a fairly good DVD player, but I am surprised that screen resolution of these devices, in general, is not better. We bought an 8-inch LG model about two years ago with better resolution. The LG still works perfectly, by the way, in spite of very hard use by two pre-school children. (LG models seem to no longer be available, unfortunately.)
This 7″ Sony model has quite good sound quality, with good volume. The on/off switch is a little clumsy to use, but no big deal. And the “hold” button next to it can be accidentally switch on. Screen resolution may be better than average, but still not very good. Otherwise, this Sony DVD player seems to be quite high quality. We have had it about two months. At one point, it wouldn’t play disks properly, but cleaning the lens fixed the problem.
Several people complain about the way the screen format defaults. I disagree. I think the device works just as it should. This Sony player’s screen has “widescreen” proportions (16 x 9), like a modern HDTV. Therefore, when you are playing a typical widescreen DVD, there is no issue: The image fills the screen, and everything is in proportion. The issue is what to do when playing a DVD with “full screen” proportions (4 x 3), typical of an older movie or pre-HD TV show. This player keeps the image in proportion and leaves black bars at the sides. That is what I prefer. Some people prefer other options, usually stretching the full screen image out horizontally to fill the screen. I don’t like the resulting distorted image but, if you do, you might want to skip this player. I believe that you can set the screen to that choice, but you will have to do it every time you insert a DVD, as it defaults to black bars.
great player and great price

I was very pleased with this purchase. Long battery life is what sold me initially. Nice compact size, very portable and lightweight. The sound is very sharp and volume is more than adequate. The fact that it comes with remote and car adapter is even better. I will now be using it at home as an additional player when not traveling.
Enjoy!
Everything it should be

Immediately after buying this I took it on a trip across the country with the family. It was lightweight, small, and tirelessly played many discs on the long plane flight. The battery indicator didn’t even show “low” after continuous use on a 5 hour flight (I figure that it was about 4 hrs, 15 mins once I factor in times I wasn’t allowed to use electronics). It continued to be used on the next puddle jumper flight and the battery never ran out.
I have no complaints about this product. It has a nice screen with good picture quality, it’s easy to use, and did everything it was asked to do without incident. It even seems to work well with scratched DVDs. The battery life is excellent. It was bought for the kids and it has taken the beating that only young kids can deliver without a scratch.
I went back and forth over the 7″ screen vs. the more expensive 9″. Of course, I don’t have a 9″ to compare against, but I’m happy to have saved the money and the better portability of the 7″ better suits my needs. I also haven’t had a feeling of “I wish I had paid more so it would do this.” It’s exactly what you expect it to be and no more.
very impressed
And the battery lasts up to 5 hours!!! Comes with car adapter and ac adapter. Plus other cords and a remote control. Worth the price. I am happy and satisfied. AAAA++++

I LOVE this dvd player. I spent time researching several portable dvd players. I need one for a 5 hour plane ride. I looked for quality, battery life and price. It was between Sony and Toshiba. I didn’t even want to bother with the lower end stuff. I chose the 7″ sony. Perfect picture. It has 2 headphone ports… for the plane
(no need for the larger screens… this is perfect)

i was very pleased with my new sony dvp-fx730 . it has great sound and the picture is fantastic. have had no problems with it and enjoy watching movies on it. best purchase i have made in a long time and the price was great also.
Love it except for the aspect setting not holding!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
As been said in other reveiws, this model is GREAT except for the annoying fact that it resets the aspect to normal every time even though you have set it to widescreen. I agree with the other reviewer that if you set it at whatever, IT SHOULD STAY THAT WAY! Other than that, if you only watch widescreen or watch 4:3 and don’t mind or prefer the black bars, then it’s it’s fine but Sony really should have made it so if you set a prefered setting, it’s stays that way until you take it off.
Unreliable Player
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this a week ago to replace a DVD Player that died. It was on sale at a local store for $89. Took it home, charged it up and tested it out. Initially, it worked great. A couple things bugged me – the inconvenient power button on the side, the so-so resolution. But the price was right and it was compact and the battery life was decent. So, a week later it is freezing up on every disc I play. New, old, it doesn’t matter. I tried watching an hour-long TV show on it and it froze up 4 times. Twice I had to restart from the beginning and shut the unit down. It did this on several discs, so I know it is not the disc. I am fed up with it and returning it. Maybe I got a bum unit, but I am taking it back and looking at others. My recommendation is to buy it locally and see for yourself. I love amazon, but if you end up with a dud it is easier to take it back to the store and get full credit. I’m bummed, I really wanted this to work and now I am back to square one and figuring out a player.

Doesn’t live up to Sony name!
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Bought this portable dvd player for my kids for Christmas after reading many reviews. I thought I had done my homework, but I didn’t realize I was missing some important information:
1. Picture Quality – Does not live up to some of its reviews. The resolution is poor; like looking at the picture through a window screen. The tiny grid-like effect gave me a migraine. Picture very dark. After checking the instruction manual for product specs, I found the screen resolution is a low 480 x 234 pixels. I quess with todays Hdtv’s I’m really used to crisp images. By the way, this information on screen resolution is missing from the product specs and technical info on the amazon product page.
2. Sound Quality – We have owned Sony TV’s, dvd players, & computers and the sound quality has always been top notch..not so with this player. The sound comes from one speaker along the bottom of the screen and as another reviewer puts it, sounds hollow.
3. Overall Product Quality – There is significant amount of noise and vibration while dvd is playing; had to turn volume up just to block some of this annoying feature.
Good News:
1. Long-lasting Battery! Not sure about its longevity though.
2. Light-weight & easy to carry around.
3. Better quality than a majority of the cheap models: Despite its problems, it is preferable to some of the cheaper alternatives.
That said, this dvd player was purchased to replace a Zenith model that we had for about 5-6 years. The old one finally bit the dust after my 3-year old dropped it numerous times(we can still get it to play occasionally.) My Zenith was way superior to this Sony in every way, the picture was so clean and crisp and the sound was wonderful! Too bad they don’t make that model anymore!
I’m still contemplating keeping this (the kids don’t seem to be as picky as I and it is for their use), or returning it for the Sony 9-inch 800 x 480 resolution screen.
Highest quality and best value

This portable DVD has been wonderful for my family. Our old one died and we had to return two additional DVD players due to poor battery life and picture quality. Sony makes an outstanding portable DVD player. The battery life is 5 hours and that’s no exaggeration! Screen is a bit smaller than I would prefer, but great picture quality makes up for that and the controls are very straightforward and easy to use. The 2 headphone jacks are also a big plus as we have two little ones and have to travel with them frequently. This definitely keeps everyone a little saner on the airplane:) Great quality and an excellent value.
A brand name product delivers

I looked for one of these for a Christmas present and realized that the off brand players were really cheaply made and did not offer a quality experience. When I found the Sony I realized that you get what you pay for. It works well and is easy to use.
