Panasonic Portable DVD Player
Panasonic Portable DVD Players
For a long while, a Panasonic portable DVD player was considered among the best available. Other manufacturers have since caught up and in some cases, surpassed the former market leader. Although no longer the top portable DVD player, Panasonic still makes a pretty decent machine.
Today, their portable DVD players occupy the mid-range category in terms of price and quality. As price goes, Panasonic portable DVD players are generally priced between just over $100 to about $250. Picture quality is usually reported to be very good on most models and Panasonic features a brightness control that is adaptable to most environments, from very low light to bright daylight.
Individual reviews of portable DVD players call the sound quality into question on some models, but not so much that it would indicate a concern associated with the model itself. Portable DVD sound is sometimes a tricky thing to evaluate using consumer reviews because you just don’t know what people are attempting to play or what their expectations were. Personally, I never noticed a sound problem with any of the Panasonics I’ve ever used playing legitimate retail DVD movies.
Some consumers complain the controls are poorly laid out on the front of the unit’s base, and a number of the Panasonic portable DVD models don’t come with a remote, which seems odd. In this price range you would expect a remote and indeed the Panasonic portable DVD models all have the other features one would expect for a device above cheap portable DVD players.
Battery life is something that most consumer reviews agree on. The Panasonic portable dvd players all boast very long battery life from 5 to over 13 hours. These ratings have to be kept in perspective though. As with all other brands, the battery life is going to be greatly effected by usage and as with all other manufacturers, Panasonic advertises the best case scenario under what could be considered regular use. For example, models advertised as having 13 hour battery capacity might only realize 6 or 7 hours if you use the speakers instead of headphones and/or require a brighter screen resolution than was used for testing. Still, 6 or 7 hours ain’t too shabby if you ask me.
