Okay. I read tons of reviews on all different portable players and this on got the best review out of all the ones i checked out.. I bought it on april 24 and recieved it on april 28th. my family and i used to on a family trip to corpus christi.. it worked great for about 6 hours total.. it was not dropped and mishandled in anyway whatsoever. as a matter of fact i am the only one that touched it. and the thing just stopped working. it wouldnt load a disc. when i turn it on it just clicks and doesnt do anything. i of course have the warranty on it, and am sending it back. the thing that sucks is that i have to pay the shipping for them to send it back to me. its only 6 dollars but still it is their product that messed up i should not be the one that has to pay the shipping for them to send a replacement back to me.

This DVD player is great! Nice extra headphones and attachments. Durable for my special needs 16 yr. old that can be rough on players!

We haven’t any problems and hope we never will. We bought a warranty on it just in case being that the reviews on all brands of these are average. Works great in our mini van to keep the 3 year old occupied. Love the headrest holster compared to other brands.

    Very happy with purchase

The item arrived timely and was ready to go from the box. Very simple instructions, great audio and the screen displayed DVDs wonderfully. Audio with and without headphones was great. Used it to entertain my toddlers at a restaurant that we enjoy, but know that the service is slow. Also worked perfectly during a 350 mile drive to Disneyland (just me and the 2 kiddos.) Really love it! Only drawbacks are the headphones that come with it (2 pairs) aren’t adjustable so neither comfortably fit an adult’s or child’s head well. Power button must be switched on manually, wish there was a remote function to power on device and the stand doesn’t work as well, toppled over a few times but still kept playing the movie (great anti-skip). Would definitely recommend this player…and really great price.

Never played through an entire DVD

Put CD in and it played fine until the end of the disc. When it got towards the end of the movie it would skip a lot and eventually freeze up and go to a black screen. Ritzcamera was very good about returning the item though.

    Awesome!

This is an AWESOME product, especially for the price. We used it for my 18 month old on multiple road trips, some of which I took solo. The remote is great because I can control the DVD player from the drivers seat and not have to worry about pulling over to press play once the menu pops up etc. The cords are also super long so that they can reach quite a distance (the car and home plugs). There is also no skipping, problems I have had in the past with other DVD players. I love all the gadgets it comes with as well.

I bought this player for my daughter who is 13. We had 2 other portable players that just quit working with few hours of use. I purhcased this Coby version for Christmas and it is now almost June. There have been absolutely no problems so far. She is very careful with her things so it doesn’t have to take alot of abuse. I don’t know how it would be with smaller kids.

    Picture Failure after 3 months
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We bought this product 3 months ago and in about 2 months the picture became VERY faded, to the point where you can’t even see anything now. We called and had one day before the 90 day warranty expired and it cost us $12 to ship it and we had to send them a check for $18 to ship it back to us ( A Total of $30). I thought that was pretty poor for what you have to pay for the thing and for it only being 89 days old !

Took my chances with a bargain player. Crapped out on this one. Player worked for approx. 3 months, then became very intermittent. Would play for 2 – 5 mins. then would stop. Thanks to Amazon for assisting with the return, as the shipper of the product would not cooperate. Am going to bite the bullet and purchase a sony.

    CAN’T GO WRONG!!!

After weeks of reseach, I came across this tablet style dvd player. I was looking to purchase a dvd player for a 19 hour trip that I was taking with my 3 y.o. daughter. After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this tablet. I absolutely LOVE IT! It’s an ingenious design. It came with a bag that strapped over the seat. I was able to retrieve the player from the bag easily while driving (keeping my eyes on the road, of course :-) ). When there is a glare on the screen, I’ll take it out of the bag and she can easily hold it in her lap. The buttons are easy enough for my daughter to use. It came with headphones which I had to replace with some that would stay on my daughter’s head, but that was it. She has dropped it several times and it keeps on ticking.

    Works…for a while
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I purchased this for my daughter about a year ago. To start everything was great. It’s a pain to change out the dvd if you have it all strapped in the car, but no biggie. One good thing about this item is it does have battery. So if you are on that road trip and need to stop for gas but not drag the kids out-they can keep watching.

However, after a few months of owning it started freezing up and just stalling in the middle of the movie. Next thing you know some movies are not playing at all-so it’s a guessing game of what is going to work today. Sometimes it will make it through the previews of a movie then just quit, other times we’re not so lucky and the thing just won’t start at all. I’m now shopping for new.

I guess for the price-you get what you pay for. It did the job for a while, but I don’t think I’m going to waste my money on another Coby and time soon.

    Very Good Product
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Purchased this portable DVD player about a year ago and finally getting to writing a review. I have been very pleased with this product and would highly recommend to anyone else. It was one of the least expensive items I found so I was worried about its performance and durability. It has not had any issues to date. The picture is really great and even when traveling on the road during sunlight my daughter can still view the picture. The battery life is good and have been able to use it off the charger for several hours. I have no issues with the sound. It comes will everything you need in order to use it in the home or on the go. The only thing I wish it came with is a carrying case. The screen has some scratches now due to normal use and we never invested in a case. I take it for what it is, a very reasonable portable unit that works perfect for entertaining our daughter.

You get what you pay for…
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I ordered this item so I could take it with me when I travel (Airlines Etc).

This unit has more cons than pros:

1). Screen quality: The screen has basically no protection and scratches easily.

2). Battery life: The battery doesn’t last as long as I had hoped.

3). Screen problems: Best when looking downward at the screen, worst when looking up at it. (See below).

4). The built in stand is of poor quality. It’s hard to watch movies when the screen keeps tilting away from you because the stand can’t hold it in place.

Due to the design of the unit itself, the screen is constantly exposed and is rather easily scratched/damaged. I found light scratches on the face of the unit after only a few days of normal use (plug and play, turn off and walk away). Part of this could also be due to the fact that the case included with the unit is made of rough fabric which could explain some of the scratching.

The battery cell (Lithium-ion) lasts about 2 to 2-1/2 hours at the most if properly adjusted. (Smaller screen size setting and use of headphones). Two pairs of cheap headphones are included but I found them to be of poor quality and fit. Of course, if you leave the unit plugged into an AC outlet with the included power cable then you’ve got no problems here.

If you’re, say, sitting in a car and you’re looking at a downward angle toward the screen then there’s no problem with the viewing quality. However, if you’re like me and you sometimes enjoy a good flick before bedtime then you’re going to have a hard time positioning the screen in relation to the user’s viewpoint without losing the picture almost completely, it looks like a photo-negative at the wrong angle.

All things considered, I would say that this is a relatively good product for the price but it could use a redesign with more rugged parts (IE stand/Screen) at the very least.

It’s fifty/fifty whether or not I would recommend this to anyone. As for myself I won’t be buying a tablet-style DVD player again anytime soon.

Buy another brand that lasts more than two-three months
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Yeah, I went through two Coby DVD players in 3 months. The customer service is awful and the people who work at customer service are clueless. I would spend ten times more on a Sony, because it will last that much longer.

    Very nice, handy product

We ordered the DVD player because our old one no longer worked. We liked this one because of the tablet style. It works great, very sharp picture quality. Comes with a number of accessories, such as an AC charger, car charger, ear phones. So far we are vary satisfied.

Great find for a great price!

I never take the time to review products I purchase, but I am so pleased with this one (which I purchased based on all the positive reviews), that I decided to take the time to review. First of all, it really does come with all sorts of accessories not mentioned in the description. It has a great picture and the sound is what you would expect from a portable player. The tablet style is convenient, especially when kids are involved. It also has a “hold” button that allows you to disable the function of all the buttons while your child holds the player. They can push all the buttons they want and won’t change any settings until you remove the “hold” setting. I looked and looked through the amazon portable dvd selection prior to purchasing, and am thrilled with my choice.

    Did not work!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We ordered this as a Chrismas gift for our daughter and upon opening it on Christmas Eve…. it did not work. Like other reviews have said, all it did was click. We opened the DVD player up and the laser reader was stuck, would not budge, and, thus, clicked. We were very disappointed.

But, the upside is that Amazon’s return process was painless. I had a full refund, including the $7.10 I paid to ship it back to Amazon in less than a week. This is the first time I returned anything to Amazon and I was very satisfied. We ended up buying the Philips 9 inch dual screen from a big box store on Dec. 26. Unfortunately the Philips doesn’t have a battery like this Coby! (But it does work!)

COBY DOES NOT BACK ITS PRODUCTS!!!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We purchased a Coby portable DVD Player in June of 2009. It lasted until November before it quit working. The warranty states that labor is covered for 90 days and parts are covered for 1 year. When we contacted Coby they said that the player itself is only covered for 90 days. They said that the player is not considered a part. They tried to claim that the player itself is only covered under labor. We are still confused by the whole conversation. Bottom line COBY DOES NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTYS. If you divide the cost of this product by the number of DVDs we played on it cost us about $15.00 per use before itself destructed.

On top of the problem that we had with the device failing after a few short months of little use, the product itself is not that impressive. It is complicated to navigate the menus and is not designed for use by children, so be ready to crawl in the back seat to change DVDs. To change a DVD, you must disconnect all 5 wires that are connected to the main devise, remove it from its clumsy pouch, insert the new DVD, and then put it all back together again. The product is also bulky and has wire running in every direction. Poor design and cheat construction. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. IT WILL ONLY STRESS YOU OUT AND MAKE YOUR CHILDEREN SAD. If I can save one person the stress that a Coby product would bring, then this posting would have been worth my time and effort.

    Good portable DVD player
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Was looking for a portable DVD player for the car for our 22 month old grand-daughter for Christmas. There’s not a lot out there to fit the bill and the actual kid players did not get good reviews. Was glad when I came across this one with good reviews from other parents. We have been pleased with it so far.
