Audiovox DVD Portable Player Revelations

You can find a number of versions of the Audiovox portable DVD player on the market. These range from very cheap dvd players to some higher end offerings. Is an Audiovox portable DVD player the best choice for you?  It might be, but probably not. I wish I had better news for you, but consumers just aren’t loving these machines.

Audiovox seems to focus mostly on “thinness” for lack of a better description. This is apparent in the “Slimline” model label they slap on a number of their portable DVD players.

Audiovox Slim Line Portable DVD Players

We’ll get this out of the way right up front. Some of the Slimline portable DVD players don’t have a very good reputation among those who have owned them. Portable DVD player ratings by actual customers show that a number of models come in at 1 or 2 stars out of 5. Others rate very well. You’ll find this wide range of customer satisfaction ratings across all Audiovox portable dvd players, so it’s a bit puzzling.

They aren’t cheap units either so there may be quality control issues. The bottom line is that I’d check the user ratings closely before deciding on a “Slimline” machine, or any Audiovox for that matter.

Audiovox Portable DVD – General Observations

Audiovox portable DVD players are considered mid-range in terms of picture, sound and construction quality.  Consumers often observe that the on board sound quality is especially suspect and volume level is too low even at the highest setting. The accessories that are included are not always the best. You may find yourself investing in better headphones for instance.  Finally, a number of consumers report issues with batteries that won’t hold a charge or with battery life that is significantly less than what is advertised.

In particular, I recommend staying away from the following Audiovox Portable DVD models

Nice looking unit with a built in TV tuner. Consumers report excellent picture quality but poor overall reliability and cheap construction.

For whatever reason, these things just seem to breakdown – a lot, at least according to people who have owned them. Steer clear.

Ultra slim case, ultra wide screen, and an ultra crappy reputation. Customers report that this particular Audiovox portable dvd player has especially poor sound quality, takes a long time to load DVDs, and freezes up frequently.
